Journal of a Trapper: In the Rocky Mountains Between 1834 and 1843
Published in Paperback by The Narrative Press, Inc. (August, 2001)
Average review score:

A fascinating view of the trapper's life
A wonderful insight to the life of a mountain manA great book but hard to read at first because of the language that Russell uses. There are wonderful stories of indians and escape. This book leaves you wanting a continuation, but because it is a personal journal that is impossible. Haines does a wonderful job editing. A must have for the library of a mountain man.

Kidcordance
Published in Hardcover by Zondervan (01 July, 1999)
Average review score:

Kidcordance is Kidfriendly! Not only can the Bible be confusing for adults, but imagine how it is for kids! My child just finished her kindergarten year at a Christian school and came home on a regular basis with a lot of questions about the Bible. This book made it very easy for me to answer her questions on a level that she can understand. We are able to read it together - she enjoys the illustrations, and the "didjaknow" facts for each word, that gives her additional tidbits of information. She likes the fact that the book not only explains words found, but gives references to Bible verses, so that she can find them in her own Bible.

Learning in Science : The Implications of Children's Science
Published in Paperback by Heinemann (April, 1985)
Average review score:

phenomenal!while so many school administrators worry about improving standardized test scores, they fail to care whether students actually comprehend the most basic science concepts. rote memorization is not the answer, as it has been proven that children will regurgitate what is expected of them for an exam, without actually changing the way they innately feel about scientific phenomena. afterwards, the majority of them will revert back to their original ideas. the authors stress the constructivist viewpoint: it is imperative to acknowledge and respect children's existing ideas about science -- be they right or wrong -- when teaching new concepts and elaborating upon old ones in the science classroom. once the basics are learned, the rest of the world is a cinch. all science educators should read this one, for they cannot help but become better teachers for doing so. phenomenal!

A Lexicon of Greek Personal Names: Attica
Published in Hardcover by Clarendon Pr (July, 1997)
Average review score:

A learned work of refernceThe Lexicon of Greek Personal Names is a unique and momentous on-going scholarly project. Its intention is to provide those engaged in the study of the Greek world with a list, accompanied by full, itemized evidence, of any personal name known from literature, inscriptions, papyri, vases, coins, and other objects. The chronological range is from the earliest period (though excluding Mycenean names) to about the seventh century AD; the arrangement, both with each of the alphabetically arranged entries and in the work as a whole, is regional. This unique book provides the source materials for a complete Biographical Dictionary of Athenians in antiquity. It contains an entry for every identifiable resident of Ancient Athens from the earliest times to the fifth century AD. It includes the evidence from thousands of inscriptions, otherwise not readily available. This is the second volume in a series covering Athens.Other areas in Greece including the Aegean Islands, Western Greece and Magna Graecia are covered in later volumes.

The Life of Jesus in Masterpieces of Art (Viking Kestrel Picture Books)
Published in Hardcover by Penguin Books Ltd (05 November, 1998)
Average review score:

How about some art history with your Bible study? The retelling of the Gospel stories appears to be true to the Biblical account. The uniqueness of this book comes in the visual display of art from the Renaissance period. My 10 year old found the pictures "kind of funny" and "different" which may be why she loves to study them. There is so much to find in the details of these materpieces. I especially like the references in the back that list time periods and artists for each piece. This gives my daughter the information she needs to do further research on specific artists that interests her. Plus giving us a time frame to think about art expression during that era. So, do you need another Bible picture book? I think so IF you are interested in giving your kids a history of art lesson at the same time.

The Man Who Owned New York
Published in Paperback by Warner Books (May, 1984)
Average review score:

Best American Author About LawyersIt is difficult to understand why the three major works of Mr. Osborn are out of print, or for that matter, why there are not more books from this fine author. Mr. Osborn's work should be required reading for anyone even remotely thinking of going to law school.

I learned that Benjamin Franklin invented and created thingsBenjamin Franklin was a very interesting man. He had the biggest funeral in Philadelphia.

Measuring Up: The Need to Succeed and the Fear of Failure (Mastering Ministry's Pressure Points)
Published in Hardcover by Word Publishing (July, 1993)
Average review score:

It was the best book ive read about martial arts.It was hard to understand in the begining, but then it became easier throughout the book. It teaches you how to use preasure points to releive fear. I really enjoyed it and hope everyone considers buying it.
Fortunately many of the places he desribed are still intact and can be visited today. One can still see buffalo in the Lamar valley in Yellowstone or see the area where he crossed the Snake River in spring flood in bullboats. His careful accounting of the routes and locations make it possible to almost follow in his footsteps.
The author has done an excellent job of editing this information in his well annotated footnotes and his maps. A thoroughly fascinating volume.
